Oh this book...I have been searching for a book where the villain is the 'hero' because, let's face it - I'm weird like that and for whatever reason I don't like my heroes 'good' in any sense of the word. Good equates to boring for me. I found this novel by accident and am I glad I did!. I write also and I write because I wasn't finding books I liked to read a few years ago. I started writing to keep myself entertained. I was so into this series, I read IT instead of writing my current novel and not just one - all three in the series, as in - finish one, buy the next one immediately. I never do that. The heroine was unlike any female protagonist I have ever read. She was believable in her badassness - maybe a bit smarter and more astute than anyone else, including the villain/hero/male protagonist, and for some reason, I liked that. I've seen it attempted in other books and somehow it always makes my eyes start rolling but that didn't happen with this series. My only beef was the fact that I kept thinking,"By god, give these two a break already!!!" I mean, it was like one thing after another! But it kept me reading, so kudos to Ms. Thalassa. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes their romances a bit more gritty and crazy than the norm.Tags : The Queen of All that Lives (The Fallen World) (Volume 3) [Laura Thalassa] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. I read through the first book with moderate interest. The second book was tedious and repetitive, but I made it through. I bought these as a set, so I felt obligated to finish reading the series. I made it halfway through the book, more and more enraged about these stupid characters and their obnoxious love story. She's supposed to be a strong badass but she acts like a lovestruck teenage girl "I hate him, he's a jerk!" then five minutes later "He's so dreamy, I think I'm in love". Ugh. Never mind the fact that he was a genocidal lunatic, whose actions allowed other genocidal lunatics to cause more genocide, even if he had a change of heart later. I couldn't make it. Halfway through I skipped ahead to the last chapter to see how it ended, then decided I didn't care and gave up entirely.
I really enjoyed this series. It flowed as it should and kept me turning the pages all along. I didn't feel cheated or manipulated by so many books out there today that I have read. I'm happy they found peace. This book was as if both had grown from a child. Unhappy to send this off and feel good about ending it. It will be a series to remember. Thank you for giving us readers excitement passion love greed hate... an amazing journey.
I really liked the Bargainer series by this same author, and so was holding out hope for these books, however I was largely disappointed. Reading the Fallen World Series was a lot like sitting through a fifteen hour viewing of the flogging scene in The Passion of the Christ on repeat. The characters are well fleshed out, the world largely two-dimensional but decently described for a first-person narrative, and the events contained enough action to keep the reader gripped. It was difficult to sympathize with the protagonists as they were selfish, self-sabotaging, and fairly self-absorbed though I suppose that can be forgiven as they are self-described as narcissistic and conscienceless. The events quickly scaled into an ever-increasing repetition of dramatic separation that completely negated any character or relationship development up to that point. And the plot summation was largely dissatisfactory after having just endured three novels of almost endless torment. I found myself skimming through whole chapters much as one fast-forwards through the gory bits of movies just to see if the torture would ever end. If you watch films like Amazing Grace where you have to sit through two hours of pain for three minutes of victory and think to yourself "How could I have made the suffering ten times as long?" these books are for you.
A great book to finish the series on, Serenity is one kick ass woman. I enjoyed Montes 180 turn in this book. It was unexpected. Then the confessions at the end, what a schemer he is mwahahaha...
One thing that did IRK my with this book was all the punctuation and grammar errors in this ebook, and there were a lot. The previous two books were fine, this one really needed attention. Smack on the hand of your proof reader.
Wow, wow, wow! I've just binged my way through all three books in this series in one day. Always thrilled to find an author I hadn't previously discovered who writes charismatic characters, builds some amazing worlds in my head and an action packed story that twists and turns. If you like Nalini Singh's archangel world, I think you'll love this trilogy. Serenity and Montes remind me a lot of Elena and Raphael (except without the wings, and in a post apocalyptic setting...).
Off to to find some more Laura Thalassa books to read now!
The conclusion to this series was worth waiting for. Plenty of action, twists and turns and a twisted kind of love between two broken and lonely people. Enemies became frenenemies and I enjoyed guessing who the real traitors were. The ending stayed true to the characters. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who likes a twisted love story and a kick ass woman who never surrenders.
So I finally finished reading the 3rd book, and what a relief it was! It took 3 books to tell Serenity's journey to acceptance and forgiveness for the King. I was really tired of the constant cycle of "He's a monster but I love him, and I won't admit it to him although I will sleep with him." Goodness, girl, make up your mind already!
Overall, the books were just ok. Not sure what the fuss was about.
